Computers/IT

The organisation has taken an active role in promoting the use of the internet amongst older people. This is in direct response to a growing interest, but also in recognition that access to many public services are moving to IT solutions.

Informal, Individual, Friendly!

Age Concern Stockport have recruited volunteers to be available to offer relaxed and informal one to one computer taster sessions.

Sessions are available within the community at some of the local libraries in Stockport (see below), and there is also a weekly session at Age Concern Stockport's Pop In Centre on Lower Hillgate.

The sessions are available to anyone over the age of fifty and they last for about an hour.

Clients are welcome to have up to 6 sessions booked individually, and there is absolutely no charge for the sessions.

At the present time the following libraries* are involved:

Stockport Central Library

Bramhall

Bredbury

Cheadle

Edgeley

Heald Green

Hazel Grove

High Lane

Marple

Reddish

The Heatons

* Clients do not need to be a member of the library to access the sessions.

Internet & Computer Taster Sessions

One of the ever popular activities at the Pop In is the Computer Taster sessions. Computer tasters offer an hour of one to one tuition allowing people to learn at their own pace. The sessions are delivered by one of the priceless Age Concern volunteers who is experienced in IT and can assist complete beginners who simply want to find out "what it's all about" or can take people through topics such as word processing (writing letters to writing books), browsing the Internet, sending emails or any number of other topics.

Sessions are held on Tuesday mornings. They need to be booked in advance.

Courses and Qualifications

Should you be looking for a more formal computer course, or to gain computer qualifications, Age Concern Stockport  can signpost you to the appropriate organisations for more information on how to access further courses.

For more information speak to an Advisor on 0161 480 1211.
